Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our RIPE LIR services. Still stuck? Reach us on Discord or open a support ticket.

Ordering & payments

What payment methods do you accept?

All major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express), PayPal, bank transfer (SWIFT/SEPA) and cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC, …). Flexible options are available for annual and multi-year plans.

Can I request a refund?

Due to the nature of these services we generally don't refund issues not caused by us. Please make sure you intend to complete the order before paying, and review the Terms of Service. For specific cases, contact us via a support ticket.

ASN & PI applications

How long does an ASN or IPv6 PI application take?

It depends on your case. With complete, accurate information it typically takes 2–7 business days. The process has multiple steps and depends on RIPE NCC, so longer timelines are possible.

I'm not in the RIPE region — can I still use your service?

Yes, but for ASN or IPv6 PI you generally need network elements located in the RIPE service region (e.g. a server invoice in the region) as proof.

I'm a minor — can I use your services?

Yes, if you provide your legal guardian's information and an authorization letter signed by your guardian.

Can I get a 16-bit (2-byte) ASN?

RIPE NCC assigns ASNs from the available pool without distinguishing 16-bit and 32-bit, so we can't guarantee a 16-bit ASN.

Do you sell ASNs or IPv6 PI directly?

No. We submit the application to RIPE NCC on your behalf, and RIPE NCC allocates the resources directly to you. We also don't offer ASN leasing.

IPv6 allocations & RPKI

Can I choose my prefix?

No — prefixes are assigned automatically by our system; specific ranges can't be requested.

Why add GETIPV6-MNT to my RIPE org object?

Adding GETIPV6-MNT to your org's mnt-ref authorizes us to assign prefixes to your organization. RIPE Database requires this before we can complete the assignment.

Do you offer RPKI delegation and ROA hosting?

Yes. We support RPKI delegation (via your own Krill instance) and ROA hosting — add ROA entries directly on your service page if you don't want to run Krill.

Can I get a Letter of Authorization (LoA)?

Yes, on request (not by default). The prefix must first be assigned to your organization for WHOIS accuracy. See the IPv6 Allocation guide.

IPv6 PI specifics

Can I apply for IPv4 PI from RIPE NCC?

No. RIPE NCC stopped assigning new IPv4 PI space in 2012 (except for IXPs). Only IPv6 PI is available.

What is the default IPv6 PI prefix size?

/48. Larger sizes (/44, /40, /36) require additional justification.

Can I use IPv6 PI to provide services to customers?

No — IPv6 PI is for your own infrastructure only. You can't assign subnets to other entities or use it for ISP services.

Can I transfer my existing PI resources to your sponsorship?

Yes. PI resources are portable — order our PI Sponsoring service to switch sponsors anytime.
